The Bargello National Museum from March 20th to June 21st is hosting the exhibition “The Middle Ages on the Road”: a selection of 12th to 15th-century maps, medieval travelling ‘kits’, pilgrims devotional objects, merchants’ items, and household articles.
After being on show at the Musée de Cluny of Paris, from October 2014 to this February, the over 100 works of art here in the Bargello offer visitors both a symbolic and a genuine journey in time. Five are the themes. 1. The representation of the world.
2. The salvation of the soul: pilgrims, preachers and clergymen
3. The war: crusades, knights and military dispatches
4.The business journey: merchants, bankers, heralds
5. The political and social visibility: sovereigns voyaging, wedding processions
Opening hours, every day from 8.15 am to 5 pm, closed every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month. Full price ticket costs 7 Euros.
