Making Music Together… with Maestro Claudio Abbado

Saturday 28th March the Opera of Florence is opening the exhibit “Claudio Abbado/Making Music together”. The opera house has, in fact, decided to pay tribute to one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century with a series of photographs representing an emotional journey throughout his entire artistic career.

Over two hundred shots by the photographers who met him during his lifetime. Picture after picture, the exhibition chronologically shows how the Maestro was in tune with his colleagues, actors and singers as well as photographs of his concerts even in non conventional places such as factories and stadiums.

Each picture narrates moments of deep sharing and underlines the importance of “making music together” that so profoundly characterised Abbado’s career.

On until June 28th 2015. Open to the public an hour before all the shows on programme at the Opera House.

The Middle Ages on the Road at the Bargello National Museum

'Benedictio baculi et peregrinorum' in 'Pontifical romain à l'usage de Vienne'The Bargello National Museum from March 20th to June 21st is hosting the exhibition “The Middle Ages on the Road”: a selection of 12th to 15th-century maps, medieval travelling ‘kits’, pilgrims devotional objects, merchants’ items, and household articles.

After being on show at the Musée de Cluny of Paris, from October 2014 to this February, the over 100 works of art here in the Bargello offer visitors both a symbolic and a genuine journey in time. Five are the themes. 1. The representation of the world.

Opening hours, every day from 8.15 am to 5 pm, closed every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month. Full price ticket costs 7 Euros.

Pop (art) in the Mall

I Gigli shopping centre in Campi Bisenzio, just outside Florence, is exhibiting 40 works of American Pop artist Andy Warhol.

On show until April 12th, in the hall known as Corte Tonda, is in fact the exhibit “Andy Warhol…in the city©”.

Many events have also been organized for this show such as weekend labs for children , the Pop Body Painting, action painting shows and instant shows.

Chuff! Chuff! The Nature Train is back

 01 Treno Natura

With Spring back another old Tuscan favourite is too: Treno Natura, the Nature Train, an old steam locomotive puffing through Siena’s most beautiful landscapes, the lunar Crete Senesi, the park of the Val d’Orcia, the Brunello vineyards and Mount Amiata.

 02 COUNTRYSIDE Valdorcia

Each trip is an appointment with either an exhibition, a fair, a market, a festival or a guided tour generally stopping at other places along the tracks. Leaving Siena, this train  brings back memories to the elderly and amuses both children and their parents.

The first train left Sunday, March 22nd, for the Marzuolo Truffle fair in San Giovanni d’Asso where visitors also visited the castle and the Truffle Museum as well as enjoying tastings at the many stalls along the way. The next train will be leaving on Easter Monday, April 6th, and stops at Asciano, San Giovanni d’Asso and Monte Antico, before reaching Buonconvento which is hosting its regional Antiques fair.

Another appointment is on April 25th with the Spring Train for Castiglion d’Orcia and its beautiful town centre and fortress, with visits on the way and back to Monte Antico, Mount Amiata, Torrenieri and Asciano.

 05 Asciano

May the 1st is the turn of Sant’Angelo Cinigiano celebrating its May Song with the local folk groups and musicians, while on the 10th the train travels to Asciano and its Crete Senesi organic market where visitors will find delicious pecorino cheese and many other local products.

 06 Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Chiusi

On May 17th the trip to Torrenieri offers various possibilities such as trekking activities, a visit to Montalcino or a walk along the Via Francigena and a stopover at the organic food stalls in the village. The last Spring trip is on May 31st with the journey to discover the Etruscan town of Lars Porsenna, Chiusi, with guided tours to the sites and museum as well as a trip to the town centre and its market.

Continuing until April 12th the “Van Gogh Alive” multimedia exhibition on show at Santo Stefano al Ponte in Florence, a beautiful former church within a stone’s throw from Ponte Vecchio.

Over 3000 images in high definition of Van Gogh’s masterpieces come to life in a symphony of lights, colours and sounds.

Since his beginnings in the Netherlands to Impressionist Paris, up to his sojourn in Arles, these works of art offer the public a full immersion in the great artist’s creative and visionary universe.
