Bolgheri Melody: not just wine and music

Bolgheri's cypress lane

Among the most famous views in Tuscany are its cypress-lined roads. One of the most renowned leads to the beautiful medieval hilltop village of Bolgheri, on the Etruscan Coast, celebrated for its excellent wines. The vineyards spread out, running from the Tuscan coast towards the hills, over an area which was once under the dominion of the Etruscans. Tuscany Holiday Rent offers a wide selection of holiday accommodations on the Etruscan Coast where one can explore the neighbourhood, savouring precious wines and excellent dishes, as well as participating to cultural events.

Bolgheri

Among those in programme this summer, the appointment with Bolgheri Melody created by the commune of Castagneto Carducci, in which Bolgheri is located, and the DOC wine producers of this area, with the will to create both a cultural event and an original moment of entertainment. Bolgheri Melody is not simply a Festival, it is the union of the knowledge of generations of vine-growers, who have contributed to the myth of Bolgheri’s great wine, together with the echoes of the precious words of Nobel prize winner Giosuè Carducci, that today still resound in the places that gave him hospitality.

Bolgheri Melody is the natural course that unites wine and nobility, show and culture, poetry and magic on the Etruscan Coast. All the charm of a unique place in the appointments of this year’s events. An excellent début on the 9th July with La Scala Theatre Ballet and its “Midsummer’s Night Dream”, the calendar proceeds until the 4th August with concerts, music icon Brian Ferry on the 28th July and Italian rock star Gianna Nannini on the 30th just to name a couple, the Genesis Tribute by Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Ballet on the 16th, talk shows with popular Italian actors, wine tasting and piano concertos on the 2nd August with “Liszt in the Night” and ending up with Léhar’s “The Merry Widow” by the Opera House of Parma’s choir on the 4th.

Concluding with the Bolgheri Melody Award, a prize conceived by the Bolgheri DOC wine producers and consecrated to an artist who also produces wine, one can well admit that here outstanding wine combines with an excellent show and high-quality culture.

Verdi’s Traviata, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Čajkovskij’s Swan Lake magically staged in San Galgano Abbey, Chiusdino, Siena

A holiday in Tuscany  means  a plunge into  an unspoilt countryside. The accommodations that Tuscany Holiday Rent  offers are often holiday homes or villas to rent far from the madding crowd where it is easy to taste simple things, live a gentle and slow life. Why not choose one of our best Chianti accommodations  in the province of Siena? There you will be able to share a real feeling with the land in a secluded spot but,  if you like,  you might,  as well,   take part to the many great summer events taking place in San Galgano Abbey, Chiusdino, thus discovering  a small village  rich in summer cultural events.

This summer  the Opera Festival, a long standing organization involved in the production of great events, will stage the Traviata by Verdi  in Saint Galgano Abbey, Chiusdino on July the 30th and on August the 6th and the 13th 2011.  On the occasion the roofless gothic Cirstercian church, full of mystery  will become  a magical theatre, hosting 800 people ready to enjoy  Verdi’s masterwork. The direction of the opera in such evocative framework is by Beppe De Tomasi,  a master acknowledged  by the greatest opera theatres in the world. Thanks to his imagination, conjuring up  the splendours of a 19th century staging,  glittering with golden stucco works, the director has set up a lavish Traviata. The opera gets contaminated with cinema through continuous flashbacks. On the other end De Tomasi is not new to cinematic techniques. His past collaboration with Coppola’s Godfather as far as the episode of   the Cavalleria Rusticana is concerned springs back to the surface.

The schedule of Opera festival includes also other great concerts such as  Carmina Burana by Orff, a strongly  emotional event for 2 pianos, percussions  and white voice chorus and Le Stagioni by A. Vivaldi with Lorenzo Fuoco’s solo violin. Also a tribute is devoted  to  ballet  with Swan Lake by Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij

The classical crossover artist Andrea Bocelli & Friends at the Theatre of Silence at Lajatico, Pisa

It is holiday time. What about profiting from the selection of the accommodations proposed by Tuscany Holiday Rent, be it villas for rent or apartments for rent in the countryside in the province of Pisa?

An international event is taking place there in a small Tuscan village called Lajatico, Pisa, hometown of Andrea Bocelli, the biggest-selling solo artist in the history of classical music.

My land – he says – loves, like me, silence and my voice, breaking it, wants to be a homage to  this  place. Music is able to get deep inside, run through it and fly away.

This is meant to be his love message his cherished land.

The landscape is magic here and it is easy to be captured by its charm especially at the end of a summer evening when it glows in the last golden beams of the parting day. The gentle hills seem to be playing, rising and falling in continuously rolling movements into a background of yellow straw fields while, in the distance, the lights of Volterra  remind us of its  Etruscan glorious past. That is going to be the backdrop of the great meeting among Italian and Chinese artists on June the 21st 2001, at the Theatre of Silence. The open air amphitheatre, built in 2006  by the municipality,  has  up to this year hosted just one concert for one night only over the following  five years, remaining for the rest of the year  simply a silent element of the landscape.

Now,  in its 2001 edition hosting “Bravo China”  the remarkable event is changing its schedule.

Andrea Bocelli, , Honorary President of The Teatro del Silenzio, has, this year, enthusiastically welcomed the invitation of the ambassador of the Chinese Popular Republic for Bravo China.

Chinese artists are going to join  Italian ones in dance and music performances in a shared partnership by two incredibly faraway  countries. The show after Hollywood, Rio de Janeiro, Athens and Moscow incredibly lands in  Lajatico as a major celebration of the Tuscan landscape, a sort of  modern homage to its celebrated past. The event is going to be jointly bradcast by Italian and Chinese televisions. The Maestro Andrea Bocelli will perform with the great pianist Lang Lang,  the operatic soprano Huang Ying and with Li Yugang,  one of the performer of the official theme song  You and Me at the 2008 opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing. The Italian  cast schedules Uto Ughi, the violin virtuoso, Eleonora  Abbagnano, Etoile of the Opéra Garnier in Paris and the flutist Andrea Griminelli.
This year’s appointment is due on Thursday July 21st at 8:15 pm.

Don’t miss it. For different priced tickets and further information enquire at info@tuscanyholidayrent.
